Ela Tenacha – Yirgacheffe

Single Origin Coffee | Natural Process | Ethiopia

High in the hills of Yirgacheffe sits Ela Tenacha — a village where coffee is more than a crop. It’s culture, identity, and livelihood woven into daily life. This single origin coffee comes from the Ela Tenacha Washing Station, founded in 2021 by childhood friends Ashebir and Ashenafi — two local farmers turned producers with a shared vision of elevating quality and creating a sustainable future for their community.

Growing up among the Kurume coffee trees, Ashebir and Ashenafi learned the rhythms of harvest from a young age. As adults, they combined their strengths — Ashenafi’s deep knowledge of coffee processing machinery and Ashebir’s experience as a farmer and cherry supplier — to establish a fully operational washing station in the heart of their hometown.

Today, the station partners with farmers from Ela and nearby Bowicha villages, carefully selecting only fully ripe red cherries. After hand-picking and meticulous sorting, the cherries are dried slowly on raised bamboo beds for up to 21 days. They are turned regularly to ensure even drying and protected from harsh midday sun and unexpected rain. This traditional natural process brings out the vibrant, fruit-forward character that Yirgacheffe coffees are celebrated for.

Roasted here at Welcome Dose, this Ethiopian single origin coffee highlights the expressive nature of the Kurume variety — layered with sweetness, clarity, and the unmistakable brightness of high-altitude Ethiopian coffee. Look for notes of bergamot, chamomile, blueberry and apple.
